ABERDEEN, Md. - Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged an 8-year-old boy from Aberdeen with intentionally igniting combustibles under playground equipment Wednesday afternoon.
The small fire broke out around 5 p.m. at North Deen Park in Aberdeen.
Officials say investigators quickly identified a suspect after a concerned citizen came forward with a tip.
The fire was quickly contained by firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department after the boy ignited paper and mulch directly underneath the playground equipment.
The 8-year-old was charged with second degree malicious burning and was released to the custody of his mother.
Further action is pending from the Department of Juvenile Services.
No one was injured.
