JARRETTSVILLE, Md. - A drunk man who was seen driving a stolen tractor escaped police custody before being re-arrested police say.
Witnesses called police around 12:40 a.m. Saturday to report an intoxicated man driving a tractor near the intersection of Phillips Road and West Jarrettsville Road in Forest Hill. Responding officers were unable to find the man.
About four hours later police got a similar call. However, now the man was on a tractor and pulling a snowblower behind him. This time officers found the man in the 1200 block of West Jarrettsville Road and put him in the back of a patrol car. After giving a fake name, he was identified as Michael Brian Myers and police determined he had an open warrant for violation of probation.
While police interviewed the owner of the stolen items Myers escaped out of the back door of the police cruiser. Police K-9 units and helicopters canvassed the area. He was recaptured a short time later in the area of West Jarrettsville Road and Cooptown Roads.
Police don't know how Myers got out of the patrol car. It has been taken out of service while investigators determine how he escaped.
Myers is being held at the Harford County Detention Center. He was charged with burglary, theft and escape from custody.
