Bel Air police are investigating two overnight vandalism incidents described as "malicious destruction."

According to police, graffiti of the letters "MS" was spray painted on the Fallen Hero's Memorial at 2 South Bond Street.

"The wall is a memorial to fallen public safety officers and firefighters within Harford County so that's disturbing to us," said Bel Air Police Chief Charles Moore said.

Across the street "MS-13" was painted at 24 South Main Street.

"MS-13" could be a reference to Mara Salvatrucha 13, a known gang, but police believe believe the incidents are isolated and not related to gang activity.

"There's always the potential for gang activity although it's inconsistent with activity and behavior that we're seeing around here," Moore said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Keith Smithson at 410-638-4500 or ksmith@belairmd.org.
