A 56-year-old woman was found dead in a Bel Air home Thursday morning. Harford County sheriffs are investigating her death as a homicide.

Just after 6:30 a.m. sheriffs responded to a suicide threat at a home in the 1000 block of Jeanett Way. When deputies entered the home, they discovered the deceased woman, identified as Donna Zaragoza. It appears she died from blunt force trauma.

"Deputies responded to the second floor when they discovered a 56-year-old female who was deceased in one of the bedrooms, who apparently had been hit with a hammer," said Major William Davis with the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

A 16-year-old male was in an upstairs bedroom refusing to respond. Deputies were able to convince him to exit the bedroom. The teen was taken into custody. He was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening self-inflicted wound.

Harford County Sheriff's deputies say they were familiar with the home. There'd been trouble at the address before, including an overdose death in 2016.

Detectives wouldn't say the relationship between the victim and the teen, but he's in police custody at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
