Two women were arrested on theft and embezzlement charges after a total of $65,500 was reported missing from the Joppa Magnolia Fire Company.
Carol Reprogel, 56, and her 32-year-old daughter, Jessie Reprogel of Edgewood, were served with indictments for theft scheme and conspiracy to commit a theft scheme.
Carol Reprogel is a member of the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and manages bingo nights and the fire company's banquet hall. She was served with an indictment for embezzlement and misappropriation of funds by an executor or administrator.
On January 18, deputies responded to the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company in the 1400 block in Old Mountain Road for a reported theft. Fire company members told deputies money was missing from several bingo fundraiser events.
Detectives discovered more than $10,000 of bingo proceeds from June 1, 2016 to January 16, 2017 hadn't been deposited into a company account and were unaccounted for. The company's credit card was used for more than $50,000 in unauthorized charges between 2014 and 2017.
Detectives also identified $5,500 worth of deposits for hall rentals that were unaccounted for, totaling $65,500 in funds either stolen or embezzled from the Joppa Magnolia Fire Company.
The mother and daughter were taken to the Harford County Detention Center and released on $25,000 bond.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office said anyone who rented the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company banquet hall between 2014 and 2017 can contact Corporal Justin Blubaugh of the Harford County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 443-409-3487.
The Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire company will join the Sheriff's Office at 2 p.m. press conference Tuesday.
