A man with ties to Cecil County and Baltimore has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at a high school football game in Queen Anne's County.

Rodney O'Neal Wesson, 50, of Cecil County and Baltimore, faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and using a deadly weapon with the intent to injure. He is being held at the Queen Anne's County Detention Center without bail.

The Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Department said Wesson was attending the Queen Anne's-Elkton football game when he got into an argument with his estranged wife, who was also at the game to watch their son playing.

A male friend of Mrs. Wesson attempted to intervene, and was stabbed in the chest by Mr. Wesson.

The victim sustained a stab wound to the chest area and was flown to Shock Trauma.

A joint statement from the Sheriff's Department and Queen Anne's County Schools said the assault was an isolated occurrence, and contained quickly enough that the game continued.

The victim is expected to be released from the hospital this weekend.
