A traffic stop in Elkton over the weekend led to the seizure of more than 900 baggies of heroin.
On Friday, Jan. 29 Cecil County Police stopped a Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the 1000 block of Singerly Road for a registration violation. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers said they smelled marijuana coming from inside the truck.
The driver, 29-year-old Tyron Robert Waters of Elkton, told police he'd just smoked in the truck, and then handed over a small bag of suspected marijuana.
Waters told police he'd borrowed the pickup truck and didn't have registration or a driver’s license. Police say they then asked him to step out of the truck, to which he initially complied, but then attempted to flee on foot. He ran about 200 feet before he tripped and fell in the snow and was handcuffed, according to police.

Officers found seven logs of heroin, equivalent to 910 baggies, concealed in Waters’ coat. Further search following the arrest revealed 41 additional baggies of heroin, along with a second bag of marijuana and cash.
Waters has been charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute narcotics. He is being held at the Cecil County Correctional Facility on $200,000 bond.
