Suspects targeted church with profane graffiti

Some wore ghoulish masks, while others didn't bother as a surveillance camera captured their images as they walked away from a church in the wee hours of the morning Saturday, leaving graphic graffiti behind.

Paul Thomas is the pastor of North East's Church of the Nazarene.

"On that one, it had a four-letter curse word... Hillary Clinton... and in the middle it had a four-letter curse word... I forget what was under it and it was 'Go Trump', but it was written big on it," Thomas said. "I guess just the depravity of people and loose morals."

At the Gilbert Lighthouse Pavilion in the community park, workers have erased most of the evidence of yet another political message, and they even defaced the town's welcome sign.

"They don't like Hillary.  They don't care for her,” said longtime resident Harley Adkins. “Like I said, 'Everyone's got their opinions' just like everything else."

But not everyone spray paints them on other people's property in the middle of the night.

"I noticed one of my vehicles had been painted," Rob Crouch said. "It's a free country.  We can have open discussions.  We can talk about who we support politically one way or the other, but we don't have to vandalize or destroy other people's property in doing so."

Lt. James Just said. North East Police have now learned the identities of all of the culprits, including three juveniles, and they will face charges, but they may not be quite as deplorable as their acts of vandalism would suggest.

"It's refreshing when folks will just come up and they'll say, 'Hey, I screwed up.  I take responsibility for myself, and I have three of those individuals did step forward to do that," said Just, "There's bad people and then there's people that use bad judgment, and this appears (to be) a case where they used bad judgment."

Just said some of the suspects' parents would like to see them perform some community service, and to that end, he said since they appear to like painting things, he's told them he has plenty of curbs that could use a new coat throughout the town.
