A man facing double murder charges for allegedly shooting a mother and her son died after experiencing medical issues at the Cecil County Detention Center Tuesday.

The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office said Marty C. Holbrook, 30, died of natural causes. A nurse was making her routine evening rounds Monday when she noticed that Holbrook appeared to be ill in his cell.

Paramedics were called around 6:48 p.m., and he was taken to Union Hospital in Elkton, then to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died the next day.

No foul play is suspected.

Holbrook was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and firearm charges after the shooting deaths of 30-year-old James David Crockett Jr. and 50-year-old Vicky Lynn Holbrook, both of Elkton, last month.
