10-year-old boy charged with arson in Cecil County

NORTH EAST, Md - Deputy State Fire Marshals said a 10-year-old Cecil County boy was charged with second degree arson and malicious burning on Tuesday, May 27, after admitting to the crime, officials said in a release. 

The boy set a shed, owned by the Lakeside Community Association, ablaze with a flammable substance that took 20 firefighters from North East, Charlestown, and Perryville to control, officials report.

The shed could not be recovered and has been deemed a total loss, according to authorities. No injuries have been reported and a motive could not be determined.

The boy has been released to his legal guardians, but may face further action with the Cecil County Department of Juvenile Services, authorities said.
