An Elkton woman woke up on Mother’s Day morning to a gun in her face and a strange man demanding money, according to police.
The 32-year-old woman said she and her husband woke up in their bedroom to a man, identified as 38-year-old Michael Dean Hollada, pointing a gun and asking to “give me your money,” according to charging documents.
When the couple told Hollada they didn’t have any money, he allegedly told them he wasn’t leaving empty handed. “I have to get high,” he said.
Their two young daughters were also inside the home, located in the 100 block of Maffitt Street.
“Once the male realized I had nothing to give him, he started explaining that he had a 6-month old kid and that he was just trying to get money together for diapers,” according to a statement the husband gave to police.
The Cecil County Sheriff's Office said when Hollada noticed they had no money, he began apologizing, kissed the woman’s head and wished her a Happy Mother’s Day.
He then told the husband to go downstairs with him. The woman heard yelling and called police.
Hollada continued demanding money and told the husband to get some water for the woman. The couple’s oldest daughter then brought him a bottled water.
Hollada attempted to leave the house with the couple’s television, asking the husband to open the door for him so he didn’t leave his fingerprints behind. He was met by police outside and taken into custody.
Police searched the suspect and found a crack pipe with residue and also the husband’s cell phone. The gun used during the home invasion was actually a BB gun, police said.
There were no signs of forced entry. The couple told police they thought they secured the home before going to bed, but may have left the front door unlocked.
Hollada faces home invasion, burglary, theft and assault charges.
