A Carroll County man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attacking his pregnant wife with a box cutter.
Kenneth Lamar Randall pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree assault and wearing and carrying a dangerous weapon openly with intent to injure, according to a release from the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office.
Around 2 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2015, the victim reported that Randall attacked her with a box cutter as she lay sleeping in their bedroom, then left the house.
Randall was pregnant with the couple's third child. She suffered extensive lacerations to her face, thigh and hand, the State's Attorney's Office said.
Their two other children heard the attack as it was happening and called out to their parents, but Randall ordered his children to stay in their room, the State's Attorney's Office said.
The baby was unharmed and Randall gave birth to a healthy daughter in July.
The victim underwent emergency surgery and sheriff’s deputies apprehended Randall about a day later.
