A man is found guilty Wednesday of killing his fiancée in 2016.

A jury found Bret Wheeler guilty of first degree murder in the death of Kandi Gerber after six days of trial, according to Carroll County State's Attorney Brian Deleonardo. Wheeler was also convicted of assault, conspiracy and accessory after the fact to first degree murder charges.

In August of 2016, police were called to a New Windsor home on Denning Road. The people who lived upstairs found blood in the basement and no one at home. They told officers Wheeler, Gerber and another man, Robert Bosley, may have been in a fight. Gerber was found dead nearly two hours later at the intersection of Old Washington Road and Muller Road.

A sentencing date for Wheeler will be released at a later date.
