Man beaten after denying phone call

ELDERSBURG, Md. - Deputies say a Stillwater Road man was beaten after denying two would-be burglars access to his home. While the man was transported to a hospital, the suspects ran away empty-handed.

Officials say they were dispatched to the home on the 1900 block of Stillwater Road just before 11 a.m. Monday. At the scene, they found a 57-year-old man with a head wound.

The man reportedly told officers that he was approached by a male and a female requesting to use his phone. The man says he denied the request, and when he went to his car minutes later, was attacked.

As he began to yell for help, the attackers ran.

Officials say the man was transported to Carroll Hospital Center for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspects are described as a black man, about 6-foot and mid 20s and a 6-foot tall black woman wearing a yellow dress. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the suspects walking through the Stillwater Road area is asked to contact Detective Fred Timms of the major crimes section at 410-386-5900 or the TIPS Hotline at 1-888-399-TIPP (8477).
