A man was arrested early Thursday morning after banging on a door with a butcher knife in Carroll County.

The suspect has tentatively been identified by police as 29-year-old Hector Amador-Martinez, though he didn’t have ID on him when he was arrested.

Police said Amador-Martinez pounded his hand on the door of an apartment in the 1300 block of North Main Street in Hampstead around 12:44 a.m. He also tried the door handle and used a knife to stab at the door and weather stripping, according to police.

Responding officers weren't able to locate the suspect at the time. Around 2:12 a.m., the suspect returned to the apartment and began knocking loudly on the door, but fled before officers arrived.

Police said they found the suspect after checking the area, and found a concealed butcher knife on him.

Amador-Martinez was transported to Carroll County Central Booking and has been charged with burglary, malicious destruction, disturbing the peace and a weapons charge.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 410-386-5900 or anonymously at 1-888-399-TIPP.
