Construction owner charged in theft

MT. AIRY, Md. (WMAR) -

The owner of T.S.I. Commercial Construction has been charged with theft after police say he was involved in a scheme to steal more than $100,000.
In June 2012, Maryland State Police began conducting an embezzlement investigation.  Back Acre Holdings Inc. was constructing a medical education facility in Mt. Airy, a facility designed to teach students from Carroll, Howard and Frederick Community Colleges.
As part of the construction, Back Acre Holding Inc. hired T.S.I. Commercial Construction as the general contractor of the project.  During the construction phase, Back Acre Holdings Inc. began receiving complaints from sub-contractors that they were not being paid by T.S.I.
Troopers and the State's Attorney's Office began investigating the complaint. After about six months of investigation, David Ames Scranton, owner of T.S.I. was charged with one count of theft scheme over $100,000.
Scranton was arrested on December 7 and is currently being held at the Carroll County Detention Center.
