Carroll County man arrested in connection with armed robbery in Gettysburg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - A Carroll County man reported as missing last week has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.

Michael Allen Redmond, 54, of Union Bridge was arrested Monday as a fugitive from justice by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. He’s being held without bond and will be extradited to Pennsylvania to face charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft.

Police said Redmond’s fiancé reported him missing. While detectives with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Major Crimes division were searching for him, they reached out to the Pennsylvania State Police to find out if they had had any previous dealings with Redmond. He has been known to frequent the Littlestown and Gettysburg areas, police said.

As police were investigating Redmond, a Pennsylvania state trooper noticed Redmond matched the description of the man who had robbed the Book Warehouse at the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg last week.

Police allege that Redmond entered the Book Warehouse shortly before closing and displayed what appeared to be a handgun to the clerk in the store.  He then demanded money from the register before running off with an unknown amount of cash.

While on routine patrol Monday, officers from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Neighborhood Enforcement Team saw a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle Redmond was last seen driving. Officers arrested Redmond after they found him inside the car.
