Windsor Mill attorney Kiran Dewan pleads guilty to bribing immigration official

BALTIMORE - A Windsor Mill attorney pleaded guilty Friday to charges related to the bribing of immigration workers for green cards.

Kiran Dewan of Woodbine, officials say, took cash from clients and attempted to bribe an immigration worker that was actually an undercover agent.

Dewan operated the Law Offices of Dewan and Associates located at 7100 Security Boulevard in Windsor Mill. In addition to his plea, one his clients, 58-year-old Mohammad Khan of Baltimore pleaded guilty to immigration fraud.

According to a report provided by the United States Department of Justice, Dewan was caught in 2011 after offering to pay the undercover agent $5,000 to have a foreign national removed from the United States. Officials say Dewan believed the foreign national was going to start a business to compete with him.

Dewan faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for bribery. His sentencing is scheduled for March 2014.

Kahn, who operated a Pizza City in Brooklyn Park, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for immigration fraud. His sentencing is scheduled for February 2014.
