RANDALLSTOWN, Md. - Two 12 year old students at Deer Park Middle school are facing handgun violations.
Baltimore County Police say one of the students had brought ammunition from a .38 caliber handgun to the school Thursday morning.
Other students had reported seeing the ammunition and the School Resources Officer was brought in to investigate.
A further investigation lead authorities to the home of another student. The handgun was discovered in the backyard of that home. Authorities believe the two students had traded an XBox 360 game console for the gun.
The gun was registered to an adult who lives at the home of the juvenile who took the gun. Police say it was secured with a gun lock and not operational.
The gun's owner will not face charges since it was secured by the gun lock as required by law.
Both boys are being charged as juveniles and they're facing various handgun-related violations.
