Baltimore County Police announced Wednesday that two men are being charged in connection with a March hazing incident that seriously injured a Towson student.
Evan Palmer Francis of Olney and Alexander Cantor of Bel Air, both 21, have been charged with hazing and reckless endangerment.
Both are set to face trial Sept. 19 and both are currently out on bail.
According to police, investigation revealed the following:
- A 19-year-old victim at an initiation event for the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity in the 300 block of Hillen Road was made to "perform strenuous workouts recite knowledge of the fraternity and drink unknown substances."
- After the event, the victim became extremely ill and was hospitalized.
- Cantor tried to persuade the victim not to seek medical attention, and to not talk about the cause of his injuries.
- While the victim was hospitalized, Cantor coordinated the removal of TKE-related items from the victim's dorm, without his knowledge.
- The victim's injuries "were consistent with injestion of an unknown caustic substance."
In a statement, Towson University announced Wednesday that the campus chapter of TKE would be suspended through summer 2021.
