OVERLEA - A toddler was hit in the face by shrapnel after an Overlea shooting that police say was not random.
Around 10:22 p.m. Monday, officers with the Baltimore County Police Department were called to the area of Kenwood and McCormick avenues in Overlea after shots were fired in the area.
Investigators learned a Dodge minivan was northbound on Kenwood Avenue when it stopped at the light at the intersection with Lillian Holt Drive, police said.
While the minivan was waiting for the light to turn, a dark colored car pulled next up and someone in the car fired several shots into the minivan, according to police. The car then turned right onto Lillian Holt Drive and drove away.
Four people were in the car at the time, including a 2-year-old girl who was hit in the face and head by shrapnel, police said.
She was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
A 40-year-old woman, 17-year-old girl and 19-year-old man were also in the minivan at the time. They were not injured.
Investigators don’t think the shooting was random and do not believe there is a danger to the greater community based on this incident.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact police at 410-887-6286 or 410-307-2020.
