There’s a thief on the loose in Edgemere.

Police say the thief or ‘thieves’ used a tool to pry open the window at a concession stand on Sparrows Point High School’s campus.

Once they got inside, the stole food, football equipment and other items worth about $3,000. Baltimore County police say it was no stranger who targeted the concession stand.

“Clearly, somebody was familiar with this concession stand and the property itself. So that makes us believe that it’s quite possible that juveniles or students that high school are involved in the crime,” Officer Jennifer Peach said.

While the culprits may be kids, the issue is still enough of a concern for the local travel team – the Edgemere Falcons – who store their gear in the stand.

“Once they were inside, they took all sorts of different kinds of food, candy, sodas and there were some piece of football equipment that were also in there including a helmet, football pads, arm pads – that type of thing,” Peach said.

Then the thieves drove off.

Surveillance video caught part of the getaway on camera.

Not enough, Peach said, for police to get a solid look at the car in the video because where the security camera was located and the time of night.

The stand is only a hundred or so feet away from the turf students at Sparrows Point High School play on year round, but only a handful are there during the summer – a prime target for thieves.

“They know the concession stand. They’re familiar with it. They’ve probably gone to football games there before. Yeah, they know of it, they know about it, they know where it is and generally they know it’s the middle of summer and there’s nobody at the school,” Peach said.

Police say they have strong leads in the case and because of that aren’t releasing the surveillance video at this point.

The recreation council’s liaison who’s over the travel football program declined to speak.

Still, if you can help in this case, Baltimore County Police.
