A former teacher has been charged in connection with the sexual abuse of a minor at Catonsville High School back in 2003.

Nathan Lee Martin, 38, of the 300 block of Community Road has been charged with second-degree child abuse-custody, fourth-degree sexual offense and sexual abuse of a minor for an incident that occurred while he was a teacher at the school.

Baltimore County Police said that on December 12, 2003, Martin had been supervising a basketball scrimmage between the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. After practice, Martin approached a 16-year-old girl and asked her to come to his classroom.

She went with him but did not go inside the classroom, according to police. Later, while the two were walking down a staircase, he touched the girl on her chest and in between her legs. He also tried to kiss her but she pushed him away.

Martin turned himself in on June 22 and was later released on $100,000 bail. He was indicted on July 6 by a Baltimore County Grand Jury. His trial is set for October 27.

Martin no longer works for the Baltimore County School system.

Baltimore County Police were notified by Anne Arundel County detectives of the allegations back in February.
The incident is under investigation.
