Police seek driver who hit pedestrian, car, bus

On Liberty Road near Essex Road, you'll find a median with a pedestrian crossing sign and a flashing light, yet those who choose to cross do so with immense risk.

Local business owner Malkit Multani got a sobering reminder on Tuesday night when he heard a crash and ran outside to find a man lying in the middle of the road.

"His leg went off and went under the car, and I told a police officer, 'I see the leg.' He was naked. His clothes were over there. I think he rolled over," said Multani.

Back inside his business, Multani showed us just how bad since the incident was captured by his surveillance cameras.

"This car is coming,” Multani said, as he used his finger to trace the path of the car, “Boom! Hits the other car.  Stops right here. We see the body right here."

Upon closer inspection, the grainy video shows the Mercedes speeding by.

"The car was coming at maybe more than 100 miles per hour," said Multani.

Then you can make out the victim's body tumbling to a stop in the middle of the road.

Police say the hit-and-run driver would then hit a Honda Accord before careening into an MTA bus head on.

"Unfortunately, the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene,” said Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department, “The driver of the Honda Accord as well as the driver of the bus and several passengers on the bus were transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries."

Somehow, witnesses say the driver emerged from the wreckage without any serious injuries.

"I heard when he hit the bus over there, he came out, and people said, 'Sit down.' He felt like nothing happened, but the people were talking like he was a drunk,” Multani said, “He was so fast. Maybe he was drunk."

The only thing certain is that by the time police arrived, he was nowhere to be found.

He had fled on foot leaving the injured and dead behind.

"If we're lucky, maybe that person if they're out there watching your newscast will think about what they've done and decide to do the right thing and turn themselves in," Wachter said.

Police say that Mercedes wasn't stolen, and they're still trying to determine who was behind the wheel that later fled the scene.
