Sheppard Pratt Health System's former director of the Health Information Management Department was sentenced to four years in prison for her involvement in a $2.7 million fraud scheme, according to the FBI.
Lyneth Nyabiosi and her husband, Willie Evans III, who was also sentenced to 41 months in prison, falsely billed Sheppard Pratt for work that was never performed.
The couple secretly controlled a company from 2005 to 2014 named Information Management Solutions Technology (IMST), which was designed to appear as an independent third party contractor. Evans, posed as a representative of IMST under the alias “James Davis.”
The couple submitted over 180 false invoices requesting Sheppard Pratt to pay IMST for work that was never performed or excessive amounts for work that was actually performed.
Nyabiosi personally approved all of the false invoices, causing Sheppard Pratt to pay IMST $2,742,791. The defendants deposited all of the money into their bank account for personal use.
The defendants were ordered to forfeit and pay restitution of $2,742,791, including two residences and three vehicles.
