Baltimore County Police say they stopped a possible gunman Wednesday evening on the Owings Mills campus of Community College of Baltimore County. Police say officers were called to the campus shortly after 7p.m. for some sort of altercation. When they arrived, they found that Kenneth Kendall Sharp had left the scene but the victim told police that Sharp had told him he had a gun in his car and would shoot him in the parking lot.
While officers were speaking with the victim, Sharp reentered the building carrying a duffel bag. When he saw police, he tried to hide it but officers were able to detain and question Sharp who admitted to having a gun in the bag.
Officers found a rifle in the bag and a loaded magazine and ammunition in the pocket of his pants. More ammunition was found in his car.
Police say the initial argument between Sharp and a 20-year-old man from Randallstown started when the victim asked a question of a teacher and Sharp called him an obscenity, according to a police press release. The verbal argument became physical when the two men began pushing and punching each other. Two instructors separated the two men, removing Sharp from the classroom however Sharp came back in and pushed the victim again before being removed by a Public Safety officer.
27-year-old Sharp was arrested with a firearm in his possession; he was charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Assault, Possession of a Firearm on School Property, and Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony/Violent Crime.
He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center: a bail review hearing is scheduled Friday.
