Three police agencies are searching for a suspect who tried to ram a Department of Natural Resources officer with a vehicle in Patapsco State Park Tuesday night.

Baltimore County Police Spokesperson Officer Jennifer Peach said officers got the call to assist Natural Resources Police and Maryland State Police in the search for the suspect.

A Natural Resources Police (NRP) officer fired at a truck as it advanced towards the officer sometime around 10 p.m.

According to a NRP spokeswoman, the officer was on patrol at closing time to make sure everyone in the park was leaving and that the campground area was secure. He then saw a what was originally thought to be a white SUV (officials now believe it may be silver or another light color). As he pulled in behind the vehicle, the driver put the car into reverse and struck the officer's patrol vehicle and then attempted to run over the officer. The NRP officer fired several shots and broke the driver's side window with his arm.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene up Hilltop Rd toward Frederick Rd.

According to a release, the officer is a 25 year veteran of the NRP and was taken to Northwest Hospital for cuts and bruises; he was released early Wednesday morning.

The officer suffered minor injuries unrelated to the shooting.

Police continue to look for the suspect; he is described as a white man in his 20's, with trim reddish hair and beard. The SUV has damage to the front end, a broken driver's side window and possible bullet holes.
