Hours after the deadly attack, Baltimore County police were still at the crime scene. Neighbors at the Skylark Pointe Apartments in Parkville say they heard the gunfire around 2 a.m.

"I was just sleeping and I heard a pop, sounded like a handgun, woke me up, I asked my girlfriend if it was a gunshot and she's like I think so, and probably five minutes later the cops were here," said John Buscemi.

The shooting happened on Swampscott Court. Investigators say the man and his girlfriend had just parked their car.

"And as they were walking from the car to the building they were approached by an unknown subject who simply came up and shot the victim one time in the upper body and then fled the scene," Baltimore County Police Officer Jennifer Peach said.

When police arrived, the 32-year-old man was already dead.

Detectives now working to figure out why the man was killed and who pulled the trigger.

"It's highly unusual for someone simply to come up to somebody and shoot them and not take any of their possessions, or not say anything to them, or there not be any kind of an altercation that takes place before the shooting," Peach said. "So that's one of the reasons to believe that this individual was targeted by the suspect, but we're still working to try and find out why that is."

No clear motive, and so far, no description of the gunman. He's still on the run tonight.

"I mean it's crazy," Buscemi said. "I'm from the city so we moved out here to the county, it's not as much, but you're not safe anywhere I guess."

This shooting is the 14th homicide for the year for the county. Anyone with information on this crime to contact police at 410-307-2020.
