Man in critical condition after breaking up Essex bar fight

ESSEX - One man is in critical condition after breaking up a fight outside an Essex bar and his suspected attacker is facing charges.

Around 10:26 p.m. Monday, Baltimore County Police were called to Sylvester’s Tavern in the 7300 block of Golden Ring Road in Essex.

When officers arrived, they found a man unconscious in the parking lot, police said. The victim remained in critical condition Wednesday morning.

Investigators learned two men got into an argument inside the bar, went out into the parking lot and allegedly started to fight.

The victim and several other people broke up the fight, but as the victim walked away, one of the men who was involved in the fight allegedly hit him in the head then drove away, police said.

The attacker was later identified as 44-year-old George Lawrence McGraw of the 500 block of Franklin Avenue in Essex.

He is charged with first- and second-degree assault. McGraw was taken into custody Tuesday and was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center Wednesday morning.
