TOWSON, Md. (WMAR) - The Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office has announced that Elrich Smith, 19, has been convicted by a jury for his role in the first degree murder of Katelyn Messina.
On July 24, 2011, Smith and Ryan McLean lured Darnell Hill to a cul-de-sac off Chapeldale Road in an effort to kill Hill in a gang-related dispute.
Katelyn Messina, 17, was with Hill. She was shot four times in the head, chest and back. She died as a result.
Hill was shot once in the back, but survived.
Ryan McLean, 19, had been previously convicted by a jury in the case and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
A sentencing date has not yet been set for Elrich Smith, however, he faces a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
