A Baltimore man has been charged with first-degree assault after trying to run over two Baltimore County police officers, Baltimore County Police said.
Victor Jerome Rybak, 48, of the 600 Block of S. Grundy Street, has been charged with two counts of first degree assault, numerous traffic charges and other related criminal charges. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $200,000 bail.
Just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Baltimore County police responded to a home on King Richard Court for a report of stalking. When officers arrived, they met with a woman who told them she had recently broken up with Rybak, whom she had dated for two months. Since then, she told police, he has been contacting her and coming to her home, despite her telling him to leave.
Police said the man was not present when officers arrived, but one officer noticed a vehicle that matched the description the woman had given of Rybak's vehicle.
The vehicle began to circle the parking lot, and an officer exited his car motion for Rybak's vehicle to stop, police said. Instead of stopping, the car accelerated in the direction of the officer until the officer had to get out of the way to avoid being hit.
According to police, the second officer also motioned for the car to stop, but had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
Officers pursued Rybak's vehicle south on Philadelphia Road until it crashed into two other cars and stopped. Rybak was taken into custody, police said.
Neither officer was hurt.
