Officers of the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack arrested one man after a street racing incident in Woodlawn.

Police were called around 2:00 a.m. for reports of illegal street racing behind a residence.

A trooper arrived and found several high performance vehicles blocking traffic and set up for street racing near Interstate 70 near the Park and Ride.

The trooper immediately activated his emergency equipment and began informing participants and spectators to leave.

Police say everyone followed the order and cleared the premises.

An hour later, the same trooper returned to the same area and saw the vehicles returned to the area.

Two vehicles were preparing to race,  as a participant poured a substance on the highway.

The trooper used his unmarked car to get close to the start line in an attempt to shut down the race.

The crowd began to flee to their vehicles.

Police say Keith Parker, 42, attempted to flee and failed to obey the trooper’s command to stop.

The trooper arrested Parker as he attempted to get into his vehicle with no incident.

Parker was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, attempting to elude police on foot, disobeying a lawful order from a uniformed police officer, hindering a law enforcement officer in the performance of his lawful duties, participating in a speed race competition, stopping a vehicle where prohibited and unauthorized use of a Class 1A dealer registration.
