Man accused of shooting BPD officer charged

The man accused of shooting a city police officer at his Baltimore County home was formally charged Tuesday.

Antonio Jones, 45, of Baltimore, is being held without bail and is charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On May 18, an off-duty Baltimore Police officer heard a knock at the door of his Gwynn Oak around 11:22 p.m. The officer went to answer, but before he could open the door, Jones shot him, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

According to police, Jones Is the estranged husband of the victim's girlfriend and believe he targeted the officer.
