The 83-year-old owner of a well-known Parkville seafood eatery was pistol whipped and robbed in the restaurant parking lot.
Police said just before noon Saturday a man approached Markos Pappas, 83, as he was getting a bag out of his car in the parking lot of his family-owned Pappas Restaurant located at 1725 Taylor Avenue.
At that point the suspect hit Pappas on the head with a gun, grabbed a bag containing money and drove off. Pappas fell, but was able to get up and run into the restaurant. He was taken to Sinai Hospital where he was treated for his injuries
Baltimore County Police located the suspect driving west on Northern Parkway and followed him until he crashed into a parked car near the intersection of Greenmount and Venable Avenue.
The suspect, identified as Darrell Burns, 25, was arrested with help from Baltimore City police in the 3300 block of Greenmount Avenue. He was charged with armed robbery, first degree assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and numerous other gun charges. He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
His handgun was recovered on the Pappas’ parking lot.
