Police say bouncers had already cleared out most of the patrons at the Slate Lounge on Sunday at one o'clock in the morning when the festive spirit from inside the establishment gave way to a violent confrontation outside the building.

"Apparently, a couple of fights broke out and at some point during these fights, there were these altercations on the parking lot,” said Officer Jennifer Peach of the Baltimore County Police Department, “Shots rang out.  Once all was said and done, they discovered there were two people suffering from gunshot wounds."

Paramedics arrived and transported two men, suffering from gun shots to the upper body, to an area hospital.

One unidentified victim is expected to survive, while 34-year-old Keonta Lyons later died from his injuries.

At this point, police have very little to go on in this case.

They are collecting surveillance video in the area, and they're asking anyone who came out of the lounge or might have been driving by in the 9,000 block of Liberty Road early Sunday to contact them if they have any information, which could help lead them to the gunman.

"We don't have any information of anything going on inside the bar itself that spilled out on the parking lot, but once the bar was closing and everyone was pushed out onto the parking lot, it appears that's when these altercations began," said Peach.
