ESSEX, Md. - There were a few tense hours for neighbors in an Essex neighborhood as police negotiated with an armed robber Saturday morning.
The suspect barricaded himself in a home in the 2100 block of Sunnythorn Road before turning himself in to police Saturday afternoon.
Police said the unidentified man stole a man’s wallet from a home on Kingston Park Lane around 7:30 a.m. and fled. The suspect then tried to take a woman’s purse at gunpoint in the 2200 block of Southhorn Road. He ran when neighbors heard the victim yelling.
Police caught up with the robber at the home on Sunnythorn Road a short time later. It is unclear whether the home belonged to the suspect, but all the residents safely left the residence around 11:30 a.m., police said.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident around 1:30 p.m.
Charges are pending.
