Essex man's bar fight death ruled a homicide

ESSEX, Md. - A 59-year-old Essex man has died after he was assaulted while trying to break up a bar fight.

Baltimore County police said William Earl Law, 59, of the 300 block of Stillwater Road broke up a fight outside Sylvester's Tavern in the 7300 block of Golden Ring Rd. on Aug. 4.

As he walked away, police said, George Lawrence McGraw struck Law causing a head injury.

Law was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died August 7. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore indicated the cause of death was head injury and ruled the death a homicide.

 McGraw, 44, of the 500 block of Franklin Ave in Essex, remains held without bail the Baltimore Detention Center. Additional charges may be placed after consultation with the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
