Children hung get well cards on dozens of Japanese Cherry Trees clinging to life after they were cut and poisoned by an unknown attacker earlier in July.

The Kwanzan Cherry Trees were planted by the community and the Catonsville Tree Canopy Project. They were planted in the median along Edmondson Avenue as part of a traffic calming measure.

The damage was discovered mid-July with eight of the 32 trees dead so far. The remaining living trees require special care to nurse them back to health.

Neighborhood families stepped forward to adopt damaged trees and Wednesday they gathered in the median at Edmondson Ave and Melvin Avenue to “celebrate the lives,” of the 8 streets “cut short by a tree killer.”
