Nearly 35 years ago, the body of a 13-year-old girl from Halethorpe was found in a wooded area in Towson.
An autopsy found that Heather Porter had been strangled to death.
Baltimore County Police still don’t know who did it, and they’re once again asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.
"Though we were able to secure some DNA, we have never been able to find a match," said Baltimore County Police spokesperson Elise Armacost. "So all these many years later, we're still looking for that break that can help us identify a suspect."
Police said the teen girl had been missing from her home in the unit block of Hazel Avenue in Halethorpe since the day before she was found.
A man walking his dog near a wooded area at Ridgewood Road and Goucher Boulevard found Heather’s body just before 7 a.m. on Sept. 23, 1981. The condition of her body at the scene led investigators to believe that she had been drug into the woods.
"The longer a case goes cold the harder it is to solve because obviously you know people come and go and memories dim," Armacost said.
DNA was recovered from Porter’s body, but a match was never made.
