Investigators believe Howard attacked a 98-year-old woman in her home in the 200 block of Gaywood Road.

Howard was charged Tuesday with attempted rape, sex offense, assault and theft.

The victim told police a man knocked at her door offering home improvement services. The woman shooed him away at about noon or 1 p.m., but he came back at about 7:45 p.m.

When the suspect came back, he entered the woman’s home and knocked her to the ground after she asked him when he’d be leaving.

The woman activated a medical alert sent to Baltimore County emergency responders. Emergency responders found the woman lying on the floor of her home.

“The investigation into this incident has indicated that the suspect attempted to rape the victim while he was in her home,” Baltimore County police noted in the release. “Investigators feel that he is a danger to the community and need the public's assistance to apprehend him.

“Police are asking anyone with information on Paul Earnest Howard Jr. or where he might be to call police at 410-307-2020.”

Police said earlier that neighbors have reported seeing a man matching Howard’s description in the neighborhood.
