BALTIMORE - An early-morning assault of an elderly woman in Baltimore City was caught by a CitiWatch camera.
It happened early Saturday morning in the unit block of South Stricker Street. That's just north of Union Square Park in West Baltimore. The video shows the victim, who is 70 years old, waiting outside of a car when a man approaches from behind, assaults her and takes her cell phone.
The woman lives in the area. She never sees him until it’s too late.
“We believe that the victim was outside in the neighborhood having trouble with her car. She was standing outside of her car, apparently there was a tire issue,” said Det. Jeremy Silbert, a spokesman for the Baltimore City Police Department. “There was a brief struggle for her cell phone, and the suspect fled from the scene with that phone.”
Investigators are trying to determine whether that suspect has been involved in any other recent crimes; they do believe he's known to frequent the Union Square area.
