The 11-month-old boy who was the subject of an AMBER Alert following a car theft in Baltimore Wednesday afternoon has been found safe.

Baltimore Police said Leo Garcia Lopez was found in a car seat on a sidewalk in the 3900 block of Shannon Drive in northeast Baltimore.

Police located the juvenile suspect and vehicle in the 2700 block of Pelham Avenue at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The child appears to be unharmed.  But as a precaution, the baby has been transported to an area hospital to be evaluated.

Police issued the AMBER Alert for a 2009 white Suzuki SUV, with Maryland tag 42688CF Wednesday afternoon. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the baby had last been seen in the company of an unknown teenager, a black male.

The victim told police that while she was unloading groceries from her car, an unknown suspect got into the car and drove away.

The victim told officers the keys were in the ignition, and her 11-month old son was still inside the vehicle.

At an afternoon press conference, police spokesman T.J. Smith backed off from calling the incident a carjacking, noting there was no struggle between the suspect and the victim.
