The future was bright for Asia Brockington, who was planning to marry this summer. Now, her mother is planning her funeral.
"My baby is innocent,” said Angelica Bush. “She doesn't go out. She doesn't party. She just focuses on her family. They were to get married June 24 and now I have to bury my baby."
It happened behind a house on East Baltimore Street on Tuesday evening, as Asia and her fiance were putting some items in the trash can.
A man emerged from the alley with a gun, like an assassin in the night.
"The person had on all black, a hat pulled all the way down and had a hood on the head pulled all the way down, closed---all you seen was just the eyes," said Bush.
The gunman said only two words, "Don't move!", and Asia's fiance made a frantic attempt to save her life before she was shot in the back.
"He pushed her towards the back door and told her to run and she got in the house and collapsed in the kitchen,” said Bush, “When I got to her she was gasping for air. So I rolled her on her side and held her and I tried to tell her to fight. I don't know what we're going to do, but we have to stop people from killing each other."
Given the chance to make a plea for the killer to come forward, Asia's mother declined.
After all, the cold-blooded nature of her daughter's death makes it doubtful the murderer suffers any remorse.
"Shoot her in her back and she has a 2-year old that keeps crying for her mother. Like how do you do that? Just how do you do that? This world is so cruel. It's just so cruel."
