A southwest Baltimore man who State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said was, “contributing to the destruction of his own neighborhood,” is facing up to 40 years in prison on drug charges.
A jury found Tariq Washington of Shipley Hill guilty of four drug charges, including possession with the intent to distribute heroin and cocaine.
In December 2016 plain clothes officers were monitoring a well-known open air drug market on Haefer Street in Shipley Hill when they saw Washington acting suspiciously. Court records show several men warned Washington to leave and he got up from a cinder block and fled the area.
A separate team of officers caught Washington, who was wearing a black ski mask, while another team retrieved heroin and cocaine stashed next to the cinder block.
Prosecuting Assistant State’s Attorney Jay Malik said "Officers know that area to be a drug market and anyone who wants to deal there ought to think twice about it."
Washington is scheduled for sentencing in August 17, 2017.
