Prisoner escapes, manhunt in Northeast Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. - Baltimore police have launched a manhunt for an unidentified man, who escaped from the Northeast Police District headquarters on Tuesday night, police said.

Police spokesman, Detective Jeremy Silbert, said the man, who was handcuffed and awaited being transported on Tuesday about 7:00 p.m., managed to escape from custody and was last seen running into a wooded area behind the district in the 1900 block of Argonne Drive.

The fugitive had been arrested earlier Tuesday on undisclosed charges. He was described by police as an African-American male in his 20s, stands 5-7 and weighs 150 pounds.

The campus of nearby Morgan State University was closed down briefly while police searched for the escapee.
