BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say they have arrested a man they say accidentally shot himself when he was trying to rob a student outside a high school.

The department said in a news release Monday that officers arrested 18-year-old Kyree Greene on Thursday when detectives saw him acting suspiciously. Police say officers recovered a handgun that he threw in a yard while running away.

Officers say Greene is accused of trying to rob a student outside of Frederick Douglass High School on June 3. Police say Greene tried to rob a 17-year-old at gunpoint, but the student fought back and Greene shot himself during the scuffle. Investigators say Greene then fled.

Greene has been charged with numerous offenses in the incidents on Thursday, in June, and a robbery and shooting in May.
