Over the weekend, a break-in occurred at Baltimore City Health Department's Eastern Health Clinic located at 620 North Caroline Street.

According to police, there is no indication that patient files have been accessed or protected health information compromised. In addition, all medications are accounted for.

Among the damaged and stolen items were televisions used in the patient waiting room and for training purposes, laptops and bus tokens for low-income residents.

Baltimore City health commissioner Dr. Leana Wen issued the following statement in response to the break-in:

"I am extremely disappointed by these events. These actions hurt the very people we serve every day at the Baltimore City Health Department. From providing HIV/AIDS care and tuberculosis treatment, to childhood immunizations, dental care, family planning, STD prevention and more, our clinics provide critical services for many of our most vulnerable residents, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. We are committed to resuming operations as quickly as possible to ensure continuity of care to our patients across East Baltimore and throughout the city."

Eastern Clinic is expected to re-open Tuesday, July 12.
