Officials with the Baltimore City Police Department have confirmed an officer-involved shooting in the 2400 Block of Washington Boulevard.

BPD spokesman Lt. T.J. Smith said the initial call of the shooting came in at 7:10 p.m.
Smith said the officer involved in the shooting was on his way to a community meeting and stopped near the intersection of Grinnalds Avenue and Washington Boulevard to speak to a 40-year-old man.
The man was asked to remove his hands and show them to officers, and refused, Smith said.
"The officer fired a single shot, striking the suspect in his leg," Smith said.
The officer, identified as Major Byron Conaway, began to immediately assist the man he shot by using his belt to form a tourniquet to restrict bleeding.
The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. The injuries the man sustained were considered non-life threatening.
Police say there was no weapon found on the man.
A police helicopter was circling the neighborhood and many roads in the area were blocked.
Conaway is a 16-year veteran police officer. He will be placed on routine administrative duties in the wake of the shooting, Smith said.
The Baltimore Police Department's Special Investigative Response Team will lead the investigation.
