BALTIMORE - Officials with the Baltimore Police Department say a man is in the hospital after being shot by an officer.
The incident happened in the 3200 block of Cliftmont Street. Officials say the shooting victim was pulled over for a traffic violation.
Officers on the scene say the man ran down an alley behind Cliftmont Street. Officials say he was then shot in the hand as an officer said it appeared the man pulled a gun.
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, investigators had not found a gun.
"The suspect turned, engaged the police officers," said Baltimore Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "One of the officers believed they saw a weapon, and in defense, the officer's partner fired at least one round in the direction of the suspect."
The man shot in the hand was transported to a local hospital with an injury not believed to be life-threatening.
