Officer in Turnage death identified

BALTIMORE (WMAR) - Police have identified the officer that they say was involved in the death of a 13-year-old Baltimore girl.

Police say Officer John Ward of the Eastern District Police has been suspended with pay pending an investigation into what happened the day Monae Turnage was accidentally shot to death.

Police found the girl under a pile of trash, last Sunday near Darley Park. Two boys, 12 and 13-years-old, were plating with a rifle when it went off, striking Monae.

The two were charged with the juvenile equivalent of involuntary manslaughter, but what happened after that has police worried.

Officer Ward was suspended for his conduct after the shooting. The rifle that was used was found in his police vehicle, but did not belong to him.
